BJP cheating nation on farm laws: Cong
Agri minister gave false information in House: Uttam
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday accused the Narendra Modi government of misleading the nation on the new agricultural laws and on provding minimum support price (MSP) to tje farmers.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Nalgonda MP, was addressing a press conference in New Delhi along with two other Congress MPs, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and A. Revanth Reddy.
Referring to the Centre’s replies to questions raised in the Lok Sabha by him and other Congress members, Uttam Kumar Reddy said agriculture minister
Narender Singh Tomar in his written reply gave “false and misleading information” on average market price for crops, adjudication of disputes under the new farm laws and consultation with stakeholders on farm laws.
“His replies are selfexplanatory that the Centre did not conduct any study on how these new laws double the incomes of farmers as claimed by the Prime
Minister,” the MP said.
Contrary to the UPA government’s policy of incentivising states for implementing the model laws brought by it, the present government has been coercing states to adopt the anti-farmer laws and even included clauses overriding the state Acts so that they have to be implemented in all the states even without the consent of the latter, he added.
The Congress MP dismissed the Centre’s claim that discussions were held by successive governments in the last
20 years on the farm laws it had introduced recently. It is also false to claim only six states implemented the provisions such as direct purchase from farmers and de-regulation of fruits and vegetables where as
20 States implemented the model APMC Act, Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
He reiterated that the the TRS had entered into a secret pact with the BJP on the new farm laws. He strongly condemned the silence of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on the controversial laws and the ongoing agitation by farmers for the last 70 days. He said the CM’s behaviour was an insult to farmers.
