Fire breaks out on the set of Adipurush

-

Actors Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan were marked safe after sets of their Om-Raut directorial caught fire. The duo was not present at the sets then.

A source tells us, “The huge chroma set caught fire while shooting with a lot of VFX. Thankfully, no one from the cast or crew was injured. A fireman, however, was injured while trying to douse the fire.”

A fire brigade spokesperson shared with us that it was a

level-2 fire, and that they took a while to put it out.

The producers also put out a statement. “We had an unfortunate incident today on the sets of Adipurush. Thankfully, no one has been hurt and everyone is safe and sound. We thank the Mumbai Fire Brigade and Mumbai Police for their support,” read his note.

However, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit is quick to point out the fire was not the fault of the filmmakers. “Let us not accuse the film industry. The BMC has open spaces reserved for playgrounds. The location was illegally given for the shoot to make a studio and they had no licenses from the fire brigade or the BMC. It is not the job of the film industry to check the licences before shooting there,” says Pandit in justification.

While it is not clear how and where the next schedule of the film will take place, this isn’t the first time a fire has broken out on a Bollywood set.

Varun Dhawan has had two fires on his sets. The shoot of the film ABCD 2, starring Varun and Shraddha Kapoor, caught fire at a Mumbai studio and 600 people were evacuated. Similarly, the generator of the vanity vans caught fire in Thailand during the shoot of his 2014-film Main Tera Hero, with Ileana D Cruz and Nargis Fakhri.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali also has had three fires, including one on the sets of the 2005-film Black, which destroyed equipment; the 2002film Devdas, in which two people died; and the 1999-film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Recently, a fire on the sets of Dabangg 2 also had three people sustaining injuries, whom Salman took to the hospital.
