Uttam demands CBI probe

Telangana Pradesh Congress committee (TPCC) president and MP, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy while demanding a CBI probe into the murder of lawyer-couple Gattu Vaman Rao and Gattu Nagamani, on Thursday alleged that top TRS leadership was behind the murder.

Addressing a press conference he said that the Congress party would meet Chief Justice of Telangana High Court Hima Kohli and also write a letter to Chief Justice of India. He said that they would raise the issue in Parliament.

Stating that the TRS government was looting the state’s resources, he suspected the involvemen­t of the ruling partybacke­d sand mafia in the gruesome murder. He slammed Chief Minister K. Chandrashe­kar Rao for his silence and having not even condemned the brutal killing.

The Congress leader pointed out that the couple had filed several cases against TRS party's Peddapalli Zilla Parishad chairman Putta Madhukar and his wife, the incumbent Manthani municipal chairperso­n Putta Shailaja. He said these facts indicate that the murders were politicall­y motivated and aimed at silencing whistle-blowers.

Minister Mahmood Ali had no control over police administra­tion. He said that the couple was murdered to cover up a lock-up death of a Dalit, Sheelam Rangaiah in Manthani. Rangaiah was allegedly killed due to third degree torture by Manthani police on May 26, 2020. Advocate Nagamani had written to the Chief Justice alleging that Rangaiah died due to custodial torture. The letter was treated as PIL and on May 27, the High Court directed Hyderabad Police Commission­er Anjani Kumar to personally investigat­e the case, he informed. He said that Anjani Kumar submitted a report before the court on June 19.
