Seer’s discourse on Mahabharata live on Facebook

Dares CM to address press meet on farm laws

- DC CORRESPONDENT

As the clock strikes 6.30 pm every day, at least 10,000 people hook to Facebook to watch an ongoing marathon discourse on the Mahabharata by Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamy, Peethadhipathi of the Avadhootha Datta Peetham of Mysore.

The discourse lasts about two hours, with the Swamiji explaining a multitude of stories from the epic, dotting the discourse with do’s and don’ts aimed at inculcating good values among people. The differences between the angelic and demonic characteristics, the boons and banes experienced by the blessed and the cursed through the life and actions of different characters form a part of the discourses.

When Covid-19 struck India with its subsequent lockdowns, the Datta Peetham ashram was no exception, as was the case of other ashrams of the Peetham in other parts of the country. With people staying put at home, Swamiji decided to begin an online discourse of the Mahabharata, an epic with an enormous breadth and dept of characters and storyline, that could help people stay at home and take their minds off the pandemic associated worries.

SO FAR, discourses on 11 of Mahabharata’s chapters, starting from Adiparvam, to Streeparvam, have been completed. Currently, the discourses are on the Shantiparvam, and the remaining six chapters are expected to be covered in a month or so.

State Congress president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday, while addressing a meeting at Tripuraram, appealed to Nagarjunasagar voters to elect party candidate Ramulu Naik as their MLC from the KhammamWarangal — Nalgonda graduate constituency and former home minister and leader of the opposition (LoP) K. Jana Reddy as MLA from Nagarjunasagar seat in the forthcoming byelection.

The state PCC chief said that neither the BJP government at the Centre nor the TRS in the state had done anything for the people, especially the voters of Nagarjunasagar. The Nalgonda MP said Jana Reddy had brought immense development in Nagarjunasagar constituency, which he represented till 2018. He said development has come to a halt after TRS won the seat. He said both the BJP and TRS have no moral right to seek votes in the MLC elections or byelection for the

Nagarjunasagar seat.

Reddy strongly condemned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for skipping the meeting of the Niti Aayog held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“As Chief Minister, KCR should have participated in the meeting to raise issues concerning the state. By skipping the meeting, KCR has sent a clear message that either he is not interested in development or he has completely surrendered before the Modi government and given it a free hand to do whatever it wants,” he said.

He said Chandrashekar Rao never missed an election or party meeting as he is interested in retaining power at all costs. But he never gives importance to administration and governance of the state. “It is highly unfortunate that Telangana got a CM who only rests at his palatial bungalow or his farm house. But he never finds time to meet people to listen to their grievances and resolve them,” he said.

The TPCC chief said that the TRS and BJP were enacting a drama of rivalry by targeting each other. But in reality, they are shielding each other’s failures and scams. He challenged BJP state president Bandi Sanjay to write a formal letter to his party’s government at the Centre, seeking a probe into the corruption charges against Chandrashekar Rao.

Similarly, he challenged the Chief Minister to address a press conference, denouncing the new farm laws and other faulty decisions of the Modi government. Speaking about the brutal murder of lawyer couple, Gattu Vaman Rao and Nagamani in Peddpalli district, he said Chief Minster Rao and his son and minister K.T. Rama Rao have turned so insensitive that they did not even condemn the murder. Reiterating the demand for CBI enquiry into the murder, Mr Uttam Reddy expressed fear that the Telangana police might hush up the case as several top leaders of TRS were allegedly involved in it.
