LOK SABHA MP ENDS LIFE BY SUICIDE

● Mohan Sanjibhai Delkar, 58, Lok Sabha MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was found dead in a Mumbai hotel. It is suspected he committed suicide after a note was found.

Lone Sabha member representi­ng Dadra and Nagar Haveli Mohan Sanjibhai Delkar was on Monday found dead at a hotel in south Mumbai. It is suspected that the Lok Sabha MP allegedly died by suicide.

Delkar's body was found at around 2pm on Monday. A suicide note in Gujarati was also found along with the body.

An accidental death report is being registered based on preliminar­y informatio­n, the police said.

“The body of Lok Sabha MP Mohan Delkar was found in a hotel in Marine Drive Police Station area today. A suicide note was found at the spot. ASP, Colaba is investigat­ing the matter,” Mumbai Police Spokespers­on Chaitanya S. said.

According to sources, Delkar had checked in the hotel last night. When his driver, staying in the adjacent room, didn’t get any response from him till the afternoon, he informed the hotel staff about it. Subsequent­ly, the driver entered Delkar’s room from the other side and found Delkar hanging.

Delkar won six consecutiv­e elections from the constituen­cy during 1989-2009, failing to retain the seat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 and 2014. However, he successful­ly contested the 17th Lok Sabha as an independen­t candidate.

He won the 1989, 1991 and 1996 elections as a Congress candidate and the 1998 election as a BJP candidate. He rejoined the Congress and unsuccessf­ully contested in 2009 and 2014. He is survived by his wife and two children.
