MAHMOOD ALI PROMISES TO PROMOTE UNANI

Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali assured to take up the matter of promotion of Unani medicine and disburseme­nt of funds from the Centre. He said that there were several issues related to Unani in Telangana, especially in the Government Nizamia General Hospital (Unani).

Mahmood Ali was addressing the seventh World Unani League and 20th Unani Medical Associatio­n Excellence awards function.

He said that the importance of indigenous medicine has increased after Covid-19.

Director, Chicago Muslim Medical Alliance, Dr Tajamul Hussain said that although he was a cancer specialist and an expert in allopathic therapies, he found that allopathy has not eradicated cancer. Lamenting the mafia of pharmaceut­ical companies that was tarnishing the image of the profession, he said that Unani medicine is very effective and its prospects for research are bright.

Corporator Sohail Qadri wondered why appointmen­ts were being made in all medical department­s, but Unani remained ignored.

Excellence awards were presented to Unani practition­ers from across the country.

Hakim Badruddin Siddiqui, Corporator Dr Samina Begum, Dr Munawar Hussain Kazmi, Dr Abul Hassan Ashraf, Dr Muhammad Ali Haider Yamani, Dr Khawaja Badruddin Siddiqui, Dr Masood Wakil Qureshi, Dr Muhammad Rafi Haider Shakib, Dr Ahsan Farooqi, Dr Abdul Rehman Khan, Dr Waqar Haider and Dr Azmat Rasool were present on the occasion.
