STOP SMEARING CPC, DON’T BACK SEPARATIST­S, CHINA TELLS US

Beijing, Feb. 22: China on Monday urged the US to stop “smearing” the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) and it's one-party political system, lift sanctions on trade and halt Washington's backing of “separatist forces in Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong and Xinjiang.

In his annual speech at the Lanting Forum, focussing on China-US ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Biden administra­tion should adjust the hardline policy pursued by former President Donald Trump towards Beijing to check its growing influence.

We have no intention to challenge or replace the United States. We are ready to have peaceful coexistenc­e and seek common developmen­t with the United States, Wang said.

Dewan Housing Finance Corporatio­n (DHFL) on Monday said its transactio­n auditor, Grant Thornton, has reported another fraudulent transactio­n of Rs 6,182 crore in the company.

The administra­tor of the company received an initial report from Grant

Thornton indicating that there are certain transactio­ns which are "undervalue­d, fraudulent and preferenti­al in nature", DHFL said in a regulatory filing.

"As per the transactio­n auditor report shared with the administra­tor, the monetary impact of the above transactio­ns covered under the applicatio­n amounts to Rs 5,381.90 crore towards outstandin­g principal, Rs

589.36 crore towards accrued interest and Rs

210.85 crore towards notional loss of interest on account of charging lower rate of interest," said the filing about the impact on the company.

Bharat Choudhary, Vibhas, Sai and G. Srikanth made winning starts at the Telangana State Ranking Snooker & Billiards Championsh­ip which got underway at the Telangana Cue Sports Associatio­n premises at Khajaguda on Monday.

In the junior snooker category, Bharat Choudhary beat Maanasvi in straight frames 59-14, 42-20 while Vibhas too registered an emphatic 51-23, 65-24 win over Mohammed Sami.

In other matches, Sai had it easy against Mohit 58-21,

50-26 and G. Srikanth clawed back to beat Venkat Sai Ram 31-56, 53-43, 52-20 in the first round of the event in which more than

200 players are competing for top honours in the junior as well as senior categories.
