`90L WORTH GOLD SEIZED AT AIRPORT
Officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad seized 1.867 kg of gold worth `90.41 lakh from a person who arrived in the city on a Pune-Hyderabad flight on Tuesday.
The seizure was made following specific intelligence that the passenger was carrying six gold biscuits concealed in his luggage.
“Investigations have revealed that the gold was secreted in the aircraft on an international run by a syndicate. One person has been arrested and further investigations are on,” a DRI official said.
The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the respondents including Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and State Wakf Board to file counter-affidavits in a case filed by Gangula Kamalakar, minister for civil supplies and BC welfare.
Justice P. Naveen Rao heard the writ petition filed the Minister seeking a direction to the District Collector, Karimnagar, to remove his 15 acres from the prohibitory list and to the Wakf Board to denotify his land from its gazette.
During the course of hearing Minister’s counsel Jandhyala Ravishankar drew the attention of the court to a pending case filed by the Minister in 2014 on the same issue. Justice Rao directed the Registry to tag the old writ with the new one and adjourned the case to March 23.
