110 NOMINATIONS ON THE LAST DAY; 179 IN FRAY
As many as 110 aspirants entered the fray on the last day of nominations for the biennial elections to the Telangana legislative council from the Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad graduates' constituency. With this, 179 candidates are in fray for the MLC polls. TDP Telangana unit president L. Ramana was among those who filed the nominations. City mayor Gadwal R. Vijaylaxmi filed a second set of nominations on behalf of S. Vani Devi from the TRS.
The nominations will be verified on Wednesday and the last date for withdrawal is Friday. The voter enrollment over, around 5,17,883 people are eligible to vote in Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad graduates’ constituency.
The number of voters has doubled compared to the last election when the voter strength was of 2.3 lakh persons. The highest number of voters is from Rangareddy district with a tally of 88,358 followed by MedchalMalkajgiri and Hyderabad with 77,349 and 64,224 voters respectively.
The election will be held in nine districts -Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Hyderabad under Mahbubnagar-RangareddyHyderabad constituency.
Former minister G. Chinnareddy from the Congress, sitting MLC N Ramchander Rao from the BJP, S. Vani Devi from the TRS and former MLC professor K Nageshwar Rao are among those in the field for the Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Mahbubnagar graduates constituency.

Vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday Naidu called for ending low representation to women in Parliament and legislatures and called upon all political parties to reach a consensus on providing reservation to them.
Speaking after releasing a commemorative postage stamp on former MLA, educationist, and social reformer J. Eashwari Bai at a special ceremony here, Naidu said though the 17th Lok Sabha has the highest number of 78 women members, they account
only for 14 per cent of the total number.
Naidu, recalling Eashwari Bai’s services, said she was the voice of the people as an opposition
leader. She constantly advocated the cause of children, NGOs, teachers, agricultural labourers, and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.
With a thaw in the US-Iran relations in the foreseeable future, India should grab the opportunity to buy crude oil from Iran which comes at a cheaper price than from Saudi Arabia. This move could bring down the ever-increasing petrol/diesel prices in the country. It could also explore possibilities of buying oil from Venezuela as the Biden’s government may lift sanctions imposed on them too.

New Delhi, Feb. 23: With the BJP set to retain power in six Gujarat municipal corporations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday termed the results “very special” and said that for a party serving a state for over two decades to record such a phenomenal win is noteworthy.
He said the results of municipal elections clearly show the unwavering faith people have in politics of development and good governance.
The BJP appeared on course to retain power in the six municipal corporations, winning 409 of the 474 seats where results were declared till evening.
“Thank you Gujarat! Results of municipal elections across the state clearly show the unwavering faith people have towards politics of development and good governance,” Modi said in a series of tweets.
“Grateful to the people of the state for trusting BJP yet again. Always an honour to serve Gujarat,” he said. Modi also hailed the efforts of Gujarat BJP workers who reached out to people with the party’s vision for the state.
