- BALU PULIPAKA I DC HYDERABAD, FEB. 26

Covid-19 cases appear to be on the upswing in Hyderabad city and other areas in the GHMC jurisdiction, as well as in Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

Fresh Covid-19 cases, since February 21, the last day the state health department issued a bulletin, have been averaging

223 a day, up from the 180s and 190s each day till February 21.

As on Thursday, the state had a total of 2,98,453

Covid-19 cases, while on February 21, the total cases stood at 2,97,712. Between February 22 and

25, the state recorded 741 new cases.

It may be recalled that the department had announced on February

23 that it would stop issuing daily bulletins but had to amend the decision after the High Court pulled it up and made it clear on February 25 that the bulletins must be issued every day. Meanwhile, according to the daily case data in the bulletin issued on Friday, the past three days saw fresh cases averaging 30s in the GHMC area, up from the daily cases in their 20s before that.

On Thursday, Telangana state recorded 189 new cases and two deaths taking the toll to 1,632.

Of the new cases, GHMC jurisdiction, including Hyderabad, recorded 31 new cases, with MedchalMalkajgiri reporting 19, and Ranga Reddy districts reporting 16 cases. Five districts – Jogulamba-Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mulugu, Nirmal, and YadadriBhongir — had zero cases.

The active Covid-19 cases stood at 1,910 and of them 818 were in isolation at home or in institutions. The rest, 1,092, were in different private and government hospitals.

Meanwhile, in what could be a disconcerting development, doctors at several private hospitals were reporting more cases of people coming in with Covid-like symptoms.

In some hospitals, the Covid-19 beds are getting filled up, it was learnt.
