AP sees higest-ever Covid spike in 24hrs

An all-time new record has raised the daily tally of Covid-19 infections by

23,920 in the 24 hours ending Sunday morning. A new record has been set also in daily tests as Andhra Pradesh tested

1,14,299 samples, an alltime high in Covid-19 tests.

As many as 83 persons succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to

8,136 and the death rate is

0.71 per cent.

The cumulative tally of infections is put at

11,45,022 and the recovery rate at 86.79 per cent. The number of recoveries was close to 10 lakh with

9,93,708 recoveries so far including the 11,411 recoveries a day ago. The Corona active cases reached 1,43,178; some

92,700 of them being under home isolation.

As many as 1.14 lakh samples were tested in the past 24 hours, the highest so far, and their positivity rate was 20.93 per cent. The overall positivity rate also increased to 6.90 per cent.

East Godavari reported

12 new Covid deaths while Anantapur, Krishna and Visakhapat­nam reported eight deaths. The Prakasam and Vizianagar­am reported seven deaths while Chittoor, Nellore, Srikakulam and West Godavari districts six deaths each. The Guntur district reported five and Kurnool reported four deaths while Kadapa reported no new death.

As many as five districts reported more than 2,000 new infections under which Chittoor reported

2,945 cases, East Godavari

2,831, Srikakulam 2,724, Kurnool 2,516 and Guntur

2,384 new Corona cases. The West Godavari registered 1,997 new Corona cases, Visakhapat­nam

1,938, Prakasam 1,378, Anantapur 1,303, Kadapa

1,055, Nellore 1,011, Krishna 989 and least number of 849 infections in Vizianagar­am.

The East Godavari is on top in total number of Corona cases with 1,47,292 followed by Chittoor with

1,25,097 cases, Guntur
