Rahul Gandhi’s leadership under cloud

- ASHHAR KHAN | DC

The disastrous performance of the Congress in the just-concluded Assembly elections has once again raised the issue of the ‘functioning of the party’ and the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. As expected the official response of the Congress is that they have not ‘succeeded in finding connect’.

Addressing the media Communications chief of the Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “We will correct our mistakes. Please wait for a few more days. Next steps now will be taken at organisational level by Congress president and party.”

While one of Congress leaders of

appropriate the G-23 change seekers Sandeep Dikshit former Delhi MP said, “we should take heart from these elections that the BJP is not unbeatable provided the Congress learns lessons of leadership and party management from these election.”

Last year 23 leaders of the party wrote to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi demanding sweeping changes in the functioning of the party they are also known as the G 23.

The party is finding it difficult to come up with reasons or introspection for the losses they have to face. It has about eight months but the party has no full time president.

Rahul Gandhi is often asked by his party men to take over the reigns of the party but no concrete decision is taken. His impression is seen on the workings of the party. He commandeers the elections management, seat management and campaign management. Leaders chosen by him lead the campaigns and election management. One of the leaders said, “we have this strange system that no introspection is done in the party ever. That is why we keep losing.”
