Be careful about your carb intake

QMy husband and I have been married for eight years and we have been trying to start a family for the past four years. I have been diagnosed as having

PCOD but I am not overweight and do not have typical PCOD symptoms apart from swollen ovaries. After two failed IVFs and a number of attempts, I am now trying to make changes to my regular diet so that I can get pregnant. Is it true that those with PCOD should avoid wheat? I avoid rice and white bread but to avoid wheat is difficult. Please advise.

A: Whether wheat or rice, you should be careful about your carbohydrate intake. Try to select foods with a low glycaemic index as they will result a slower rise in blood sugar. These include many vegetables, beans, fruits, whole grain cereals, nuts etc.

Space out the carbohydrate intake. Avoid refined flour, sugary foods etc. Drink at least eight glasses of fluids not containing caffeine. Limit the consumption of foods containing saturated and transfats (eg: fatty red meat, whole milk, butter, fried food, and sweets). Monosaturated fats (olive oil, canola oil, nuts) and Omega 3 fats (Salmon, flax seed, nuts) can be had. Regular physical exercise is a must.

Q: Doctor, when we have sex, my husband expects me to guide his penis into my vagina, both initially and also during the course of intercourse, instead of inserting it himself. Is there some study on which method gives more pleasure, particularly given the fact that some women don’t like holding their partner’s penis?

The man’s point of view: Men may not know exactly when a woman desires insertion. If she guides the penis, that problem is solved. Also, by holding the penis, the woman’s readiness for penetration will be enhanced. Further, if men do the insertion themselves, it could result in hitting the wrong areas and premature ejaculation.

Please explain what is correct.

A: There is no hard and fast rule as to how the penis should be inserted into the vagina — whether the man penetrates by himself or the woman guides him; but it is better that the woman does the guiding, because, in the ‘man on top’ position, men may not be able to properly locate the vaginal opening.

There are many reasons for premature ejaculation. However, the “penis hitting the wrong area” is not one of them.
