Doctors working at the Government District Hospital at King Koti have been told to stay put at their posts during their shifts. The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, on Monday, issued a circular to this effect.

The notice to doctors on government payroll working at the King Koti hospital, a Covid-19 only facility, came in the wake of a report in these columns on Monday, ‘King Koti Hospital might turn into another death hole’, that highlighted bad infrastructure, repeated disappearance of permanent doctors, and issues relating to bad infrastructure in the hospital that included critical equipment being in a poor condition.

The hospital’s Medical Superintendent in his circular, said: “It has been observed by the undersigned while doing rounds that doctors were not present in their respective wards. In this regard, all the doctors are instructed to stay at the designated places of the posting in their stipulated timings. This is for strict implementation.” Copies of the circular were also marked to all the doctors, the Special Chief Secretary (Health), and the Resident Medical Officer, among others.

The report published in these columns also could facilitate, for the first time in about a year, clean drinking water being provided to the hospital staff with the hospital being supplied with crates of bottled water. It was a group of Senior Resident Doctors, who were fed up with the conditions at the hospital, which in turn were affecting their ability to take care of patients, and was also putting their health in jeopardy, wrote a letter on Sunday to the Director of Medical Education, highlighting the conditions at the hospital. At least 40 doctors and staff at the hospital have already been affected by various diseases.
