City drenched by sudden showers

IMD predicts thundersto­rms, gusty winds for the next four days in state

Brining respite from the scorching heat, parts of city witnessed light to moderate showers on Monday. Officials of the Indian Meteorolog­ical Department (IMD) issued a forecast of thundersto­rms for the next four days till May 7.

In its warning, IMD said thundersto­rms, accompanie­d by lightning, gusty winds (30-40 kmph) and hailstorms are very likely to occur at isolated places across Telangana.

According to IMD director K Naga Ratna, there is a trough travelling over north Karnataka and adjoining areas. “Under the influence of this system, there is formation of cumulonimb­us clouds over the area, which is leading to rains. We expect the same weather to continue for the next 24 hours,” she said.

week. Hyderabad, in particular, has been placed under an orange alert from May 4-6 as rains, thundersto­rms and strong winds are likely to affect the city of pearls, especially during the evening hours.”

It is not just the rains, they would be coupled with gusty winds as well. In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall in the state measuring 114.5 mm was recorded at Elkathurth­i in Warangal Urban district.
