Good Samaritan cops help Gandhi Hospital patients
Daily wage labourer Arun Kumar was in panic after his wife Vimashree, 24, needed hospitalisation while in home quarantine after contracting Coronavirus.
He tried at various hospitals but could not succeed in finding a vacant bed. That is when a relative shared with him contact details of Chilkalguda inspector G. Naresh. On calling and giving the reference, the inspector asked Arun Kumar to bring his wife to Gandhi Hospital.
And that is where Vimashree is now undergoing treatment.
Recounting what he and his wife went through, Arun Kumar, a resident of Kapra, told Deccan Chronicle that Vimashree had been in home quarantine after the virus struck her.
On Tuesday night around 10 pm, she developed high fever and serious breathlessness.
Arun Kumar said: “We realised she needed to be hospitalised. No beds were available in Kapra’s
vicinity and even in the city. I then contacted my uncle, who shared with me the contact number of Chilkalguda inspector Naresh and asked me to try my luck. To my surprise, the inspector immediately obliged and asked me get the patient in an ambulance to Gandhi Hospital. There, I was extended all help from acquiring a bed to proper treatment. My wife’s condition is better than last night and she is undergoing further treatment,” a much-relieved Kumar said.
Chilkalguda police inspector has created a
WhatsApp group with all constables on duty and incharges of each floor at Gandhi Hospital.
He has been coordinating treatment of critical patients through them.
Naresh said: “Our aim is to share information and data in the quickest way possible. Cops on duty stay in touch with patients and their attendants at the hospital. They liaise between the medical team and patients. This system is enabling us to help those in need and saving a lot of precious time,” the inspector added.
