Trio teams up to feed sick, deliver food at doorsteps

- SANJAY SAMUEL PAUL I DC HYDERABAD, MAY 7

Three young friends from humble backgrounds have joined hands to feed those who are in isolation due to Covid and are fast becoming an inspiration to others in the neighbourhood. When they came to know about the food crisis the Covid patients are undergoing, they did not think twice to do something to provide them food.

They mobilised around

10 to 12 volunteers who help them in cooking, packing and delivery and started their small community kitchen. Now they make home delivery of food to those who are in quarantine. The food is prepared with all the care and nutritional values. All three are small time earners — one a sports uniform maker and two of them run a tent house rental. When they revealed their noble idea to a mechanic friend, he came forward and offered his premises for cooking and packing.

Michel Abraham, a sports uniforms maker, Naresh Fathepuri and Raymond Harwood, both tent house workers, are from Trimulgherry. The trio made up their minds to distribute free food to

Covid-19 infected people. Learning about this, David offered his workshop for cooking and for packing. He closed down his workshop for this cause, and all the operations now take place from this place. Started on May

1, they have been supplying food close to a hundred people in the areas of Kanajiguda, Bollaram, Lothkunta, New Bowenpally, Marredpally, Prakash Nagar, Banjara Hills, Ameerpet, Tarnaka, Boduppal and Trimulgherry.

Raymond Harwood said, “A meal include two chapatis, rice, two eggs, chicken, vegetable curry, dal and two fruits. We are changing the menu based on the feedback. As of now, we are providing only lunch and dinner.”

Michel Abraham said, “We promote this on WhatsApp groups and put up banners in the surrounding areas. People contact us and they are satisfied with the food.”

He said, “We will do this service till the curve is flattened in the second wave. We will take this forward and are are ready to mortgage whatever we have.”

One of the volunteers, who help these three noble men, is J. Sham, a resident, Central Batter, Trimulghery, “I deliver food to Covid-19 patients. We leave the food at a distance of three to four feet and call the beneficiary on phone. We leave the place only after they receive the food. I take extreme precautions, use face masks, face shields and do hand sanitisation.”

B. Aruna, a resident of Ameerpet, who is seven months pregnant, tested positive on April 5 and hospitalised for week. Her husband, mother and sister are all positive. She is getting food on time from May 1 for all four of them, thanks to the trio’s initiatives. She has to pay only for the transport which is close to `80. “The help these people extend to me is like a boon, food is hygienic and nutritious,” she says.
