RSS slams Bengal violence

- DC CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, MAY 7

● RSS GENERAl secretary said that there is widespread “fear psychoses” among the common people of West Bengal.

Condemning the “gruesome post-poll violence" in West Bengal, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday said it appears to be "well conspired" and is against the spirit of democracy. The RSS also asked the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamul Congress to “effectively establish rule of law”, act against the culprits and instill a feeling of safety and confidence among the affected people.

The RSS also reminded the ruling party of its duty in containing the post-poll violence unleashed against the Opposition party members, in particular the BJP. It claimed that the state administrative machinery was “completely passive” and “remained mute spectators” during the violence and the “rioters seemed not to be afraid of anything”.

In Bengal, the anti-social elements active in this abhorring violence, “misbehaved with women folk in the most barbaric and despicable manner, brutally killed innocent people and torched houses”, the Sangh's general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said in a statement.

He also claimed that as a result of unabated violence, thousands of people, including a large number from the scheduled castes and tribes, were forced to go in search of refuge to save their lives and honour.

“It is our considered opinion that this post-pollresult violence is contrary to the Bharatiya tradition of co-existence and respect to the opinion of all, as also it is totally opposed to the very spirit of democracy and one people enshrined in our Constitution,” he said.

The “electoral victory belongs to political parties but the elected government is accountable to the entire society”, he said.

The RSS general secretary said that there is widespread “fear psychoses” among the common people of West Bengal.

The RSS demanded legal action should be taken against those involved in violence and should also make effort to “instill a feeling of safety and confidence in the minds of affected people and to take necessary steps for their rehabilitation.” The RSS also urged the Union government to take necessary and all possible steps to establish peace in the state and to make the TMC government act in the above direction.
