Salman hits out

The actor opens up about lockdown hardships and how he’s been trying to help, even as his new film Radhe... readies for an OTT release

- LIPIKA VARMA

Salman Khan sticks to his commitment, like his dialogue in the film — “Humne ek baar commitment kar di toh kar di.” Having committed to all his fans that Radhe Your Most Wanted Bhai will be an Eid release, — given the present situation, a theatre release is not possible — it will be released on an OTT channel.

The superstar has apologised to the theatre owners as the box office collection of the film will be zero.

Salman doesn’t want his fans to come to the theatre. He wants them to be safe at home and be entertained with his film Radhe… Ask him what his message is to his fans in these trying times, he replies, “It’s a very difficult time.

You can say things like ‘be strong’, ‘be safe’, and ‘stay at home’ which you have heard thousand times. How does one do that if somebody at their house has got covid or somebody has lost a family member in this pandemic?”

“Also, everyone needs to work to earn their daily bread. Khane ko paise nahi hai to davaaiyo ke liye kahan se layenge paise?,” says the actor.

Salman Khan however advised people to follow the lockdown rules so that the number of COVID-19 cases will reduce, the lockdown can be lifted, and facilities will become available easily once again.

BEING HUMAN

Talking of his own efforts to help the needy during the pandemic, Salman says, “I have been getting lots of calls from my friends asking for medicines and injections, ICU beds, oxygen etc.” He says if there’s a bed available, he helps, but he’s also emphatic that he does not put pressure that some needy person is turned away in order to help someone he recommends. “Just to help somebody who you know, you are taking out somebody else’s mother or father or sister or brother… so that is something that I am not doing because that is just not the right thing to

do,” he avers.

HITS OUT AT WRONG DOERS

Salman Khan has hit out at those who are using the pandemic to prey on the suffering of others and make money for themselves. Strongly condemning those who are selling medicines and oxygen cylinders in the black market, he says “What kind of people are these? When you can save somebody’s life, you are thinking of making money on this and you don’t give a damn whether somebody is dying?”

Pointing out that spurious versions of medicines that cost `250-`300 are being sold for exorbitant rates, he says “It will come back to bite them.”
