Lockdown lessened cases, says Talasani
Animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Monday said that with the implementation of lockdown and coordination among various departments, there was a gradual decline in new Covid-19 positive cases in the GHMC limits.
He was addressing a review meeting in which home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, mayor Gadwal R Vijayalakshmi, GHMC commissioner D.S. Lokesh Kumar, superintendents of various hospitals and senior officials were present.
“With the proper functioning of government hospitals and basti dawakhanas, door-to-door fever surveys and special sanitation drives have all resulted in a decline in positive cases. Regarding the second dose, the state government is yet to receive the vaccine and hence it has been stopped temporarily. The programme will be resumed soon,” the minister said.
He said to facilitate easy access to information a dedicated command control (number 040-21111111) has been opened at the GHMC headquarters. The minister said the citizens were cooperating with the government machinery.
He said with monsoon expected next month, desilting of nalas should be taken up rigorously. He said that the entomology wing and Enforcement and Vigilance and Disaster Management wing of the GHMC were spraying disinfectants to curtail the spread of Covid-19.
"Many NGOs are providing food to the needy during the fourhour relaxation. However, they have to obtain prior permission by informing the local police", he added.
Mahmood Ali said awareness should be created in getting Covid information about the helpline and the control room. Basti dawakhanas have been urged to provide oxygen facilities in an emergency. The steps being taken by the Telangana government has become a model worthy of emulation.
“In order food to more deprived sections, the quantity of food at Annapurna Canteens has been increased correspondingly,” he added.
Vijayalakshmi said that in order to contain the pandemic strict implementation of lockdown was needed. Isolation centres have been identified in each circle for use in case of emergency and in order to improve sanitation efficiency, she would inspect the sanitation works regularly.
Lokesh Kumar updated about the activities of the GHMC control room.
He said Hydera-bad district collector Swetha Mohanthy has been providing information to the public about oxygen supply at prime hospitals, emergency drugs and availability of beds.
Superintendents of Gandhi, Fever, King Koti, Osmania and Sarojini Devi eye hospitals, and Nims among others, gave details about the number of beds, number of positive cases, availability of oxygen and remdesivir in their respective institutions.
