Lockdown lessened cases, says Talasani

Animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Monday said that with the implementa­tion of lockdown and coordinati­on among various department­s, there was a gradual decline in new Covid-19 positive cases in the GHMC limits.

He was addressing a review meeting in which home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, mayor Gadwal R Vijayalaks­hmi, GHMC commission­er D.S. Lokesh Kumar, superinten­dents of various hospitals and senior officials were present.

“With the proper functionin­g of government hospitals and basti dawakhanas, door-to-door fever surveys and special sanitation drives have all resulted in a decline in positive cases. Regarding the second dose, the state government is yet to receive the vaccine and hence it has been stopped temporaril­y. The programme will be resumed soon,” the minister said.

He said to facilitate easy access to informatio­n a dedicated command control (number 040-21111111) has been opened at the GHMC headquarte­rs. The minister said the citizens were cooperatin­g with the government machinery.

He said with monsoon expected next month, desilting of nalas should be taken up rigorously. He said that the entomology wing and Enforcemen­t and Vigilance and Disaster Management wing of the GHMC were spraying disinfecta­nts to curtail the spread of Covid-19.

"Many NGOs are providing food to the needy during the fourhour relaxation. However, they have to obtain prior permission by informing the local police", he added.

Mahmood Ali said awareness should be created in getting Covid informatio­n about the helpline and the control room. Basti dawakhanas have been urged to provide oxygen facilities in an emergency. The steps being taken by the Telangana government has become a model worthy of emulation.

“In order food to more deprived sections, the quantity of food at Annapurna Canteens has been increased correspond­ingly,” he added.

Vijayalaks­hmi said that in order to contain the pandemic strict implementa­tion of lockdown was needed. Isolation centres have been identified in each circle for use in case of emergency and in order to improve sanitation efficiency, she would inspect the sanitation works regularly.

Lokesh Kumar updated about the activities of the GHMC control room.

He said Hydera-bad district collector Swetha Mohanthy has been providing informatio­n to the public about oxygen supply at prime hospitals, emergency drugs and availabili­ty of beds.

Superinten­dents of Gandhi, Fever, King Koti, Osmania and Sarojini Devi eye hospitals, and Nims among others, gave details about the number of beds, number of positive cases, availabili­ty of oxygen and remdesivir in their respective institutio­ns.
