Rahul says PM nowhere in sight when needed
The Congress on Monday hit out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the PMCares ventilators.
Taking to Twitter Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “There’s a lot common between PMCares ventilators and the PM himself: too much false PR, don’t do their respective jobs, nowhere in sight when needed!”
The attack comes amidst a row over reports suggesting ventilators bought with PMCares funds and supplied to a hospital in Punjab’s Faridkot have been left unused because of technical glitches.
The Centre has hit back at these reports, calling them “unfounded” and alleging it is the lack of infrastructure at the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital that is to blame.
The ventilators in question were supplied by Bharat Electronics Limited and AgVa. The Central government has ordered an immediate audit of the process of installing and operating the ventilators, and directed healthcare workers be trained in its use, if necessary.
Since its inception last year, the Congress has been critical of the PMCares fund.
It has demanded that proper audit of the fund should be carried out.
The party maintained that instead of a new fund, the PM National Relief Fund should have been used to collect donations as it had been done in the past.
Last week, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sachin Sawant accused the Central government of providing faulty ventilators and called for a statelevel inquiry into the matter.
Several states have redflagged the ventilators manufactured by AgVa Healthcare and supplied by PMCares Fund.
Earlier last week, Rajasthan chief minister Mr. Ashok Gehlot complained that the state had received faulty equipment and urged the Union health ministry to launch an investigation into the procurement of defective ventilators using PMCares Fund.
