TD TO BOYCOTT DAY-LONG AP ASSEMBLY MEET

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Telugu Desam state president K. Atchannaidu has announced that his party would boycott the Assembly session being convened for a day on May 20.

Addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, Atchannaidu said the Budget should have been passed in the Assembly in March, as was done at the Centre and by many states. It should not be passed by an ordinance, he said.

During the last two years, the YSRC government did not convene a sufficient number of Assembly sessions to discuss public issues.

“When we asked the government to convene the Assembly in March this year, it said the session cannot be held due to Covid-19. Then how it being held now,” Atchannaidu asked.

He blamed the government for not focusing on the Covid-19 situation. “If the Chief Minister has any responsibility, he should have convened an all party meeting. The government did not take any cue from the neighbouring states which have been handling the situation effectively. The government completely failed in administration of vaccine to the people and in providing oxygen to the needy patients,” he said.

Atchannaidu said 106 patients had died due to the government failure in supplying oxygen at a crucial time. The YSRC had been blaming TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for “the loss of a few lives” at the Godavari pushkar but more lives have been lost now.

Atchannaidu said while the patients were crying for beds, oxygen, medicines and food to save themselves, the Chief Minister had announced `15,000 towards cremation charges to add insult to injury. Any responsible government would make all out efforts to save lives and the Chief Minister should draw lessons from Kerala, he said.
