‘It’s the time to stand together’

Covid Warriors is by Indians, for Indians, says Bhumi

-

Bhumi Pednekar was distraught when she, her sister and her mother tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus. She was particularly upset by her mother turning critical due to COVID-19 complications. And that was the inspiration for her ‘Covid Warriors’.

“When I saw what my mother was going through because of the virus, I told myself that I would devote time to save as many people as possible. If we, the privileged people of the country, can go through such a harrowing time, just imagine what others must be going through. It is our duty as citizens of the country to stand up and do something. It is our duty to be there for our fellow citizens. It is our duty to the nation to help those in need,” says Bhumi.

The actress adds, “It is amazing to see how Indians have helped out total strangers in need. I thank everyone for standing up for humanity at large. These are the times that define us as a country and as human beings and I thank everyone who has lent a helping hand. In the midst of all the pain and the suffering, saving every life possible has been our goal. I thank all the Covid Warriors for leading from the front and doing their bit.”

Bhumi describes her initiative, ‘Covid Warrior’, as a movement of the people, for the people and by the people of India. “I’m sure we will beat the virus... But for now, we will have to stand by each other and help out.” she says.
