3 NGOs provide O2 round the clock
In order to support hospital staff in providing first aid and administering oxygen, three organisations — Social Data Initiative Forum (SDIF), Access Foundation and Safa Baitul-Maal — came forward and installed a facility providing oxygen in triage areas of Gandhi Hospital, District Hospital King Koti and Chest Hospital.
About 50 volunteers of these organisations are serving Covid-19 patients in triage areas of hospitals round-the-clock in four shifts, where they support the attendants of patients in completing the admission process and administering oxygen in the triage area till the patient is given admission into the hospitals.
Covid-19 patients
approaching hospitals for treatment have to spend more than two hours at the triage area for getting admission as they have to go through some tests and process and sometimes there is more delay due to the non-availability of
beds. Patients who confront acute respiratory problems need artificial support to survive.
The triage area is the first point of patient contact with the emergency department of a hospital. Triage is used when the medicalcare system is overloaded, meaning more people need care than the available resources. Here hospital staff ensures that the most critically ill patient gets medical attention on priority. In Gandhi Hospital, where patients are approaching not only from different parts of Telangana but also from neighbouring states, sometimes patients have to wait for hours.
President of Safa Bait-ulMaal, Moulana Giyas Ahmed Rashadi, said their volunteers were not only providing help to patients in hospitals but also serving them at their residences. “Recently we acquired 100 oxygen concentrators to cater to the patients who need oxygen. We obtained voluntary services of 45 doctors who provide advice to needy persons online. Our seven volunteers have dedicated themselves to providing plasma donors in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate,” he said. Vice president of Access Foundation, Dr Hafsa Ahmed said when they realized the flow of patients in these hospitals was very high during the second wave of Coronavirus, they decided to provide support to the hospital staff in handling patients at the triage area. We installed oxygen cylinders in those areas and started to administer oxygen on the advice of doctors on duty.
Syed Amjad, adviser SDIF, said in Gandhi Hospital their volunteers were serving up to 100 patients per day, where they administered oxygen to the needy and helped the attendants in shifting the patients from ambulance and vehicles to triage area.
