Complacency led to second wave, says Apollo doctor

- HARLEEN MINOCHA | DC

A senior doctor from Apollo Hospitals has said that complacency among the people was the prime reason for the deadlier second Coronavirus wave. Senior consultant neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar pointed out that people became careless and opened up to everything, which led to the second wave, along with mutations within the virus.

He warned people to take precautions for the next six to eight months, so that the pace of increasing cases comes down. He maintained that physical social gatherings should be avoided totally till majority of people in the country are vaccinated.

Dr Sudhir Kumar suggested that it would be better for people to take a vaccine, which has a less gap between the two dosages. This will help people gain immunity ● DR SUDHIR warns people to take precautions for the next six to eight months.

faster. “No vaccine gives you 100 percent protection. Yet the two dosages with the prescribed gap will protect you better. It is very rare seeing someone dying of Coronavirus after taking both the dosages. Even if a person contracts the virus, it will be very mild with no need for hospitalisation. Now that crores of people have been vaccinated, efficacy of the vaccines has been proven beyond any doubt. So, nobody should hesitate from getting inoculated,” the doctor advised.

The Apollo consultant observed that the 2DG oral anti-viral drug launched by DRDO is very promising. He was participating in a webinar organised by Lions Club of Hyderabad Petals, a women’s club in the city.
