Cargo aircraft with oxygen cylinders land in Odisha
In a first in the country, a cargo aircraft from China carrying over 1,350 oxygen cylinders landed at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Odisha capital here on Sunday.
Informing about it, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s chief advisor Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) Chairman Asit Tripathy said the incident was first-of-its-kind for the country.

ARCELORMITTAL NIPPON Steel India, one of the largest steel makers of the world, delivered the cylinders. cylinders to the Odisha government was the first tranche of a consignment of 5,150 cylinders pledged by AM/NS India to be given as a part of its contribution to bring relief to victims of Covid-19 across the state.
Describing it as a step ahead in oxygen security, Tripathy said the Chief Minister had directed that no patient shall suffer due to lack of oxygen.
The state government is ensuring efficient distribution of oxygen cylinders to all medical institutions and developing reserves. In two months, more than 14,000 additional oxygen cylinders were added. With today’s import and further consignments, the situation will become better, the official said.
Sunday’s consignment for the government of Odisha extends AM/NS India’s support for Covid19 to six states across India. It has been supporting relief work in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. The company has built a
250-bed Covid hospital in Gujarat which is now being expanded to 1,000 beds. It has been providing daily supply of 250 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen to destinations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.
