Anubhav stands by Kartik

The filmmaker says there seems to be a concerted effort by some to malign the actor’s reputation

- — Sanskriti Media

It is an unwritten rule in the movie industry that actors and filmmakers meeting to discuss a project never talk about things till they sign on the dotted lines.

We hear that Kartik Aaryan, who is no longer a part of Karan Johar’s Dostana 2 or Shah Rukh Khan’s Freddy, is now apparently not a part of an Aanand L Rai produced action-drama film either.

While the news about Dostana 2 recasting was confirmed by the Dharma Productions, there has been no communications from Red Chillies regarding Freddy. However, an official spokesperson of Aanand L. Rai rubbished rumours about Ayushmann Khurrana replacing Kartik in his production and stated that they were both being spoken to for different films.

While only Kartik knows the film he’s in talks with, he has remained silent over allegations that he interfered in the creatives of the subject after they were mutually agreed upon.

SUPPORTING SETS

However, standing up for the actor is director Anubhav Sinha. He took a dig at what he felt is a coordinated attempt to speak ill about Kartik’s work temperament.

Stating in a tweet that he respected the actor’s dignified silence on the issue, he wrote, “And by the way... when Producers drop actors or vice

versa they don’t talk about it. It happens all the time. This campaign against Kartik Aryarn seems concerted to me and very bloody unfair. I respect his quiet (sic).”

According to film historian Imtiaz Baghdadi, no news is ever leaked about someone getting replaced for any other reason except date issues, to protect both makers and actors. “Many a time, deals fall through at the eleventh hour with actors backing out due to certain issues with the script or the makers dropping them for several reasons. Also, there are these non-disclosure agreements (NDA), which prevent actors from talking about the projects,” explains Baghdadi.

Producer Kumar Mangat, who had launched Kartik in Pyaar ka Punchnaama, also says that Kartik has been respectful. Hopefully, the truth of the matter would be out soon.

Anubhav’s experience has obviously taught him to revolt when rules are broken. Recently, in a media interaction, Subhash Ghai also had said that Kartik was very well behaved when he worked with him in Kaanchi. “He was someone who listened and never intervened in our work. I hope he has remained like that,”

he says.
