Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao accorded a grand welcome to Justice Ramana who received a ceremonial salute from the police at Raj Bhavan.

This is Justice Ramana’s maiden visit to Telangana state after becoming the Chief Justice of India on April 24. He was accompanied by his wife Sivamala. He will stay at the Raj Bhavan for three days.

Justice Ramana proceeded straight to the Bhavan where the Governor, HC Chief Justice, Chief Minister, ministers and other dignitaries extended a warm welcome by presenting bouquets.

Justice Ramana landed in Hyderabad from Tirupati where he stayed on Thursday night. The pride among Telugu people was palpable as the son of the soil reached the pinnacle of the judiciary. There were huge hoardings along the major junctions and stretches in the city set up by the state government, welcoming Justice Ramana.

The price of petrol in Hyderabad was `99.31 per litre and those who are moving out due to the unlocking are feeling the pinch. With the relaxation hours increased till 5 pm those venturing out are shocked to find that the petrol they can now acquire is much less than what they could earlier.

This has hit hard as many have to move around for business purposes which is the first priority. With businesses hit due to the lockdown many of them are trying to make up for the lost time and that requires regular movement. With prices closing in to `100 it is pinching most of them as they go around.

As a middle class citizen, I feel burdened by the skyrocketing prices of fuel. We are already facing the adverse effects of the pandemic. Now comes this upward spiral. This is adding to our stress. When will better times come?

We struggle to earn each penny and even a small hike in fuel prices unsettles our budget. There is no transparency about how the petrol tax money is spent. The government can help us by reducing taxes.

Taxi owners who tie up with MNCs suffer as their earnings decrease with every hike in fuel prices. We enter into agreements for a full year. The rates are fixed on the prevailing fuel price. It is not possible to renegotiate.

— Syed Sajjad Ali, Owner of Car Rental Agency

When the price of yellow metal increases, it impacts the economy. When the price of black gold increases, how can we take it easy? Petrol prices are skyrocketing and we are left with no choice. Petrol is a necessity.

— Mhelsea, an Assistant Professor from Malkajgiri

The way the petrol price is going up, the common man should stop thinking about owning a car. There will be a time when we have to take a loan to buy petrol. We are being squeezed by both the governments.

— Himadri Soni, a private employee from Gachibowli

During the pandemic, when incomes are less, a hike in fuel prices hits the middle class more. Such regular increases lead to anguish and distress. There is a worry that the prices of other commodities too will go up.
