Elon Musk ditches house
The Tesla boss chooses to sell his houses so that he owns none
“I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will
own no house (sic),” he tweeted
first, and right after tweeted in another post, “My gf @Grimezsz is
mad at me.”
In May 2020, Elon Musk had stated that he planned to do away with his possessions and not own any home. Then on Monday, Musk actually declared that he plans to sell his last remaining California home. “Decided to sell my last remaining house. Just needs to go to a large family who will live there. It’s a special place,” he tweeted.
According to The U.S. Sun, the 49-year-old billionaire had tweeted earlier this month that he has only one house in the San Francisco Bay area, which he’s been renting out for events. About that house, he hoped it would be bought by a big family, which he said “might happen someday.”
According to a report, the first home for sale, a 16,251-square-foot mansion, is Musk’s lower Bel Air estate overlooking the Bel Air Country
Club which he’d bought for $17 million in 2012. It’s now listed on Zillow for $30 million. The huge house has six bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, a two-story library and swimming pool. It also includes a tennis court, gym, pool, wine cellar, fruit orchard and five-car garage.
His second home is listed for
$9.5 million. The billionaire’s seemingly eccentric need to sell off his house apparently stems from trolls attacking him for his wealth — which had incidentally grown by $14 billion between 2014 and 2018.
According to the article in The Sun, Musk, while speaking to podcast host Joe Rogan last May, had said, “I think possessions kinda weigh you down. And they’re kind of an attack vector. People say, ‘Hey, billionaire, you got all this stuff.’ Well, now I don’t have the stuff —now what are you gonna do?”
Well, no wonder his girlfriend Grimes, who recently gave birth to their baby, seemed mad at him. At least that’s what he claimed on one of his tweets soon after he tweeted about selling his homes. “I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will own no house (sic),” he tweeted first, and right after tweeted in another post, “My gf @Grimezsz is mad at me.”
