TS hits 3 crore saplings target on KTR b’day
‘Mukkoti Vruksharchana’, which aimed for planting three crore saplings on a single day in Telangana, is set to achieve the ambitious goal with more than the targeted number of saplings planted across the state in one day.
TRS Rajya Sabha member Joginapalli Santosh Kumar, who is leading the Green India Challenge, said on Saturday that the mammoth task to commemorate the birthday of minister K.T. Rama Rao near the target.
He recalled how people came together in February when a ‘Koti Vruksharchana’, planting of one crore saplings to mark Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s birthday was undertaken and the target achieved.
“We raised the bar by a
few notches for our working president's birthday. Around 10 lakh saplings were planted in Hyderabad, while 25 lakh were planted in 142 municipalities, another 25 lakh with the help of councillors
and another 50 lakh in other areas,” he said. As of evening, collated figures pointed to 2.5 crore saplings being planted and the number was expected to go up when the final tally is prepared.
Meanwhile, the forest department said that it achieved a single day plantation record of 40.343 lakh saplings planted inside forests and Compensatory afforestation along with non-forest areas. Santosh Kumar was accompanied by welfare minister Koppula Eshwar. They inaugurated the programme at the Abdul Kalam stadium at the 8incline of Singareni at Ramagundam of Peddapalli.He appreciated Ramagundam MLA Korakanti Chander Patel for taking up steps to plant as many as five lakh saplings in a single day across Ramagundam.
Peddapalli MP Venkatesh Netha, MLA Korakanti Chander Patel, police housing board chairman Koleti Damodar, Ramagundam police commissioner, V. Satyanarayana, mayor Dr. Anil, SCCL finance director Balaram and corporation commissioner Uday Kumar were present along with others.
TRS leaders celebrated the minister’s birthday on a grand note in Karimnagar.
