TS extracts 1.2L extra doses from vax vials
Judicious use of extra doses helped increase jab ratio
Telangana has not wasted any Covid-19 vaccines. In fact, not only have they been completely utilised but 102 doses extracted from every 100 doses supplied.
Each person is vaccinated with 0.5 ml of vaccine. Every bottle of vaccine generally carries one to one-and-a-half doses extra. “Using each bottle judiciously for vaccinating everyone is our motto,” asserted Dr. Kiran M., senior doctor at Government Medical College in Nizamabad. He explained, “Government of India has officially recognised extraction of additional doses from vaccine bottles. The technique is to use all available vaccine in the bottle till the last drop. By doing so, TS has been able to actually vaccinate 102 persons for every 100 doses.”
The country’s average is, however, 101 vaccinations from every 100 doses.
During a question and answer session, ministry of health and family welfare had stated that 1.59 crore doses have been supplied to Telangana, of which 1.06 crore are free.
Between May 1 and July 13, total 60.29 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the state, which include 1.20 lakh doses extracted additionally. This has helped the state government vaccinate more number of people and also deal with issues of shortage.
