TS Board is in bad shape: Wakf

- ATHER MOIN I DC

THOUGH THE state Wakf Board managed to cancel 400 documents pertaining to the properties, it could be treated as a first step. This did not mean that the Telangana Wakf Board had done everything it needed to do, he said.

The Central Wakf Council took a dim view of Wakf related affairs in Telangana saying the state government’s attitude towards the state Wakf Board needed improvement. One of the council members, T.O. Naushad said as far as Telangana and Hyderabad city were concerned, the council members, on a visit to the state, found several instances of mismanagement. He said it was not the fault of the Wakf Board that it did not have a full-time CEO as it was the responsibility of the state government to appoint the official, and also constitute the Wakf Survey Commission. “If the government is not performing its responsibilities, the Wakf Board alone can’t deliver,” he said.

After meeting Wakf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem and some of the board members, and officials, Naushad said the council had no hesitation in appreciating any good work done in the state by the board. Though the state Wakf Board managed to cancel 400 documents pertaining to the properties, it could be treated as a first step. This did not mean that the Telangana Wakf Board had done everything it needed to do, he said.

Haneef Ali, another member of the council, said staff shortages were resulting in the board not being able to protect its properties. The board had passed many resolutions and requested the state government for staff but the state government was not responding, he said.
