Global Tiger Day celebrations today

- DC CORRESPONDENT VIJAYAWADA, JULY 28

Forest authorities are observing ‘Global Tiger Day’ on the theme ‘Their survival is in our hands’ in AP and TS on Thursday. AP and Telangana state have about 100 tigers at present, which is a huge increase in the past decade. The decreasing tiger habitats need to be conserved and public support is needed to ensure the survival of the big cats. To this end, the Wildlife Conservation Society of India is organising a programme to help students learn about tiger conservation.

Each school will be given a slot of 15-20 minutes, starting from 9 am until 1 pm. Children will exhibit their creative skills with poster presentation and a two-minute speed talk, apart from poetry, skit and other presentations on the theme. The Visakhapatnam zoo would host the official programme from 3.30 pm to 5 pm on :https://

The Hyderabad Tiger Conservation Society has been working since 2001 in coordination with AP and TS forest departments to ensure survival of tigers and bridge the gap between indigenous communities and government agencies, according to WCS-India, assistant director Imran Siddiqui.
