KAZIS PROMISE NOT TO CHARGE EXTRA FEE

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, AUG. 5

Kazis on Thursday assured the Wakf Board that no one from their association would collect any amount more than the fee structure fixed for them.

Wakf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem requested the kazis to refrain from instant issuing of talaq confirmation certificates and, instead, conduct counseling with litigating couples whenever husbands approached them for Talaq. This would help minimise the talaq rate in society, he said.

A meeting was held in the Wakf Board with the kazis of the city with the purpose of encouraging good practices in the community. The kazis informed the board that, after enactment of ‘The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, no kazi has confirmed such talaq. The new law had made triple talaq void and illegal. Saleem advised kazis to discourage divorces and try and reunite the couples that are on a confrontation course. He said the board’s conjugal counseling centre will function four days a week to ensure expeditious settling of pending cases.

Saleem expressed concern over late-night Nikahs and said a meeting will be held with the city police, owners of marriage halls and Imams of the Masjid to end such practices. He said a resolution will be passed in the next board meeting to fill the post of Nazir-ul-Qazath (Superintendent of Khazat section). Kazis complained that both men and women are equally suffering as the Wakf Board has stopped issuing the divorce Certificate even if the talaq is given, which is not covered under the said Act. They agreed to bring suitable changes in the divorce confirmation certificate to be issued by them.
