Help for Covid-hit K’nagar

Chief Minister K. Chandrashe­kar Rao has sent state-level officials to Karimnagar as the district is seeing a surge in Covid-19 spread, and villages too are facing the brunt. There is increased political activity due to the impending Huzurabad Assembly byelection in the district.

On Thursday, the district continued to have the second highest number of infection cases in the state, at 61. The surge has been noted from July 17, from when more than 50 new cases were recorded daily.

The Chief Minister's office has asked officials to increase testing in the district and urged people to go into quarantine if and when they are tested positive. Wearing of the mask is compulsory and those roaming around public places without it will be fined `1,000, the district administra­tion has warned.

Health officials carried out a review meeting with other district officials to increase vigil in villages. Dr G. Srinivasa Rao, director of public health, who was in Karimnagar said, "Testing would be increased to 8,000 samples per day. A fever survey will also be done. If one person tests positive, there must be 20 to 25 primary contacts to be traced and tested.”

Mobile teams are to be kept in crowded areas to randomly test people.

Officials have visited Jammikunta urban and rural areas and Manakondur village where a death was reported due to Covid19. Health department officials have been asked to move into villages and track cases of fever, cough, cold, headache, and muscle and joint pains and also keep a watch on seasonal diseases like dengue and malaria.

Doctors have been asked to carry out field-level surveys to identify new cases of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the health department said 582 new cases were detected in the state and three deaths have occurred due to Covid-19.

A total of 1,07,329 tests were carried out and those undergoing treatment at home and hospitals currently number 8,744. The recovery rate in the state stood at 98.06 per cent on Thursday.

There is a surge in cases in Hyderabad GHMC limits with 83 cases reported on Thursday while Warangal Urban reported 61 and Khammam 45 new cases.
