- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, AUG. 7

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy alleged that the sewage system in Hyderabad was neglected by the TRS government.

People are facing difficulty due to sewage system, the senior Congress leader said.

Revanth Reddy on Saturday visited the houses of sanitation workers Butla Shiva and Navalli Anantaiah, who died while doing manual scavenging in a manhole at LB Nagar.

Revanth Reddy spoke with the families and handed them over `1 lakh financial aid.

He demanded that compensation be paid to the kin of deceased workers immediately.

Speaking to reporters, Revanth Reddy said that revenue and municipal officials did not visit the houses of the deceased so far.

The TRS government is behaving inhumanly with sanitation workers, he alleged.

Revanth Reddy also made a phone call to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) LB Nagar zonal commissioner Upender Reddy and demanded that criminal cases be filed against officials and contractors, who encouraged manual scavenging, which led to the death of two workers.

“We will complain to the national agencies about the death of sanitation workers and negligence of officials,” he warned.

He said that neither the Chief Secretary or the GHMC commissioner reviewed the reasons leading to the death of the workers. “Manual scavenging is prohibited, how did the GHMC officials continue it,” the TPCC chief asked.
