Bhagwat: India’s dependence on China worrisome

- BHAGWAN PARAB | DC

SWADESHI DOES not mean ignoring everything else, but to carry out international trade on our terms and conditions. The more we are self-reliant, more we are secure, Bhagwat said.

On the 75th Independence Day, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has expressed concern over India’s dependency on its feuding neighbour China for technology-related goods. Calling for the need of self-reliance, he said that if dependence on China increases, we will have to bow before it.

Bhagwat also emphasised on the need of economic security saying that international trade should be done on our own terms.

The RSS chief hoisted the national flag at the IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya in Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, Bhagwat said that India needs to be ‘Swa-nirbhar’ (self-reliant), which will help in increasing the employment and reducing violence in the country.

“No matter how much we shout about China and call for boycott on Chinese goods, but from where does everything in your mobiles come from? If the dependence on China increases, then we will have to bow before it,” he said.

Swadeshi does not mean ignoring everything else, but to carry out international trade on our terms and conditions. The more we are self-reliant, more we are secure. What we can manufacture at home should not be brought from the market, Bhagwat added.

The RSS chief also said that a decentralised production will help India’s economy to generate employment and selfemployment opportunities.

“The government should provide assistance and encouragement to industries. It should appeal and urge industries to manufacture what is important for the development of the country and formulate policies to encourage industries,” he said.

The standard of living should not be decided by how much we earn, but by how much we give back, Bhagwat said. “Production needs to be people-centric. The focus should be on research and development, MSMEs and cooperation sectors. We will be happy when we consider the welfare of all. To be happy, we need sound finances and for this, we need financial strength,” he said.
