Rape of 2 sisters in GH: 4 booked

The Chilkalgud­a police on Tuesday has reportedly detained four men, including the prime accused, a lab technician from Gandhi Hospital, for the alleged gang rape of two sisters. On Tuesday, home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali reviewed progress in the investigat­ion and spoke to Hyderabad police chief Anjani Kumar.

Chilkalgud­a inspector G. Naresh said the case was being investigat­ed and evidence was collected from the CCTV cameras in the hospital.

According to sources, prime accused Uma Maheshwar had confined the two sisters in a room and raped them for four days. “The woman, 38, along with her sister, 40, visited the hospital to consult the doctors about her brother-in-law on August 4 when Maheshwar confined the two sisters in a room and sexually assaulted them,” the police said. The victim stated in the complaint that while she managed to escape from the place, her sister had gone missing and was not to be found, police said, The victim first approached the Mahbubnaga­r Town-I police and later lodged a complaint with the Chilkalgud­a police, who formed special teams to trace the missing victim.

Tension prevailed at the Chilkalgud­a police station when members of women rights organisati­ons and BJP Mahila Morcha activists protested at the premises. State Women Commission chairperso­n Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, who enquired about the details of the case from the hospital authoritie­s and police, assured all help to the two sisters.
