BJP welcomes Cal HC order

- DC CORRESPONDENT with agency inputs NEW DELHI, AUG. 19

Insisting that the Calcutta high court has given a “strong message that anarchy has no place in any part of India”, the BJP on Thursday asked West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to “introspect”.

The party said the court has sent a strong message that should be a “milestone” as it has made it clear that “anarchy has no place in India”.

However, the Trinamool Congress in the state hinted at appealing to the higher court.

“The court has given an order. We respect the judiciary. But if the CBI comes in in every law and order matter, which is entirely within state government's jurisdiction, it is a transgression of the state's right. I am sure the state government will look into the order and might take a decision to appeal to a higher court if necessary.” senior TMC leader and MP Sougata Roy said.

In the alleged post-poll violence case in West Bengal, the high court has ordered a CBI probe into grievous cases like murder and rape as well as the formation of a special investigation team to probe all other offences related to the post-poll violence.

The BJP alleged many of its supporters and cadre became victims of political violence after the TMC retained power in the state.

Citing the National Human Rights Commission report and the court’s order, BJP spokesman Gaurav Bhatia said people’s complaints were not heard by the state police after the violence erupted following the TMC’s triumph in the Assembly polls.”
