Vaishnavi, Mohit top sailing shots
Vaishnavi Veeravamsham, Sikhansu Singh, Mohit Saini, Ritika Dangi and Chunnu Kumar were the gold medallists in their respective categories as the Hyderabad Sailing Week concluded with a grand ceremony at Sailing Annexe in Secunderabad here on Thursday.
In Laser Radial women category, Vaishnavi clinched gold while Sikhansu topped in Laser Radial men’s category.
Meanwhile, Mohit outclassed Avinash Yadav and Rammilan Yadav to emerge victorious in the Laser Standard class while Ritika and Chunnu bagged gold in their respective girls and boys categories of Laser 4.7.
Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of Naval Staff, President YAI, was the chief guest of the occasion. The event was jointly hosted by the EME Sailing Association, the Secunderabad Sailing Club and Laser Class Association of India. Lieutenant General TSA Narayanan, Commodore, EME Sailing Association, complimented the sailors on high standard of sailing and competitive spirit displayed by all participants. He also thanked the Government of Telangana state, sister organisations and sponsors for making the event a phenomenal success.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief of Naval Staff congratulated all the participants and award winners and said their performance will motivate and inspire the youngsters to follow their experiences. This National Ranking event continues to rise in stature, expanding participation and attract the best talent in the country to provide a perfect launchpad for budding sailors.
From a humble beginning in 1986, the event has come a long way. The unprecedented level of participation (102 sailors from prominent sailing clubs across the country) witnessed in this year’s Regatta is testimony to the growing popularity of the sport in the twin cities.
