NEPALI GANG ARRESTED FOR BURGLARIES

A Nepali gang of four involved in servant thefts has been arrested by the Hyderabad police. The main accused and his men had committed house burglaries here repeatedly in the past.

The arrested accused were watchman Kamal Shahi(35), maid servant Bishal Shahi(23) and cooks Prakash Padmabahud­ur Shahi and Manojkumar Rawat(both 36). Police said four other accused were absconding. Prime accused Kamal Shahi was involved in a theft case under Abids police station in 2018. He has been at large since 2018. He along with his five associates committed burglary and stole properties worth `1.19 crore from a home where he worked as a servant, police said.

City police commission­er Anjanikuma­r said that on Nov

11, 2018, Kamal committed the burglary in the house of businessma­n Sunil Agarwal in Abids. He had been employed by Agarwal as a servant. When the family went to the Hi-tech City to attend a function, Kamal along with his gang stole valuables from the house and decamped with booty. “The gang escaped to Nepal and took shelter in their native place. The special team from Hyderabad went to Nepal and stayed there for 11 days to nab the accused, and the cops were assisted by a team of the Nepal Police. It was difficult to trace the accused in the dense forest and difficult terrain there,” said joint commission­er of police, central zone, Viswa Prasad.

Kamal came back to the city and continued with such crimes along with his associates Manoj, Chandu, Bishal Shahi, Ashok and Rekha who joined as maid servant in a house located at Moosaramba­gh. On August

12, 2021, when the house owner went out for his official work, leaving behind his children, Kamal Shahi and his associates Bhupin and Prakash Thai, along with Bishal Shahi @ Sabeen Rana, Ashok and Rekha committed a theft of `11,50,000 and made good their escape.

The Hyderabad police formed

12 teams to arrest the accused. Acting on the tip off, the commission­er’s task force, east zone team, Hyderabad, along with the Malakpet Police apprehende­d the four accused and recovered a part of the stolen property, `4 lakh, from their possession in the city, before they could escape to Nepal.
