DATTATREYA TO PUSH FOR SC RESERVATIONS FOR KURUMAS
Golla-Kuruma community people should not restrict themselves to being shepherds but dream of becoming successful businessmen or politicians, said Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.
He was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by representatives of Golla-Kuruma community in Jammikunta of Huzurabad constituency on Thursday. He said it was unfortunate that the community was facing hardships in rearing goats and sheep. They need to venture into other livelihoods, he said.
To get rid of poverty, they needed to understand that education was paramount. “Because of my education, I was able to get big posts in the Union government,” he said.
On noticing a young girl Ramya in the crowd, he told her to come to the dais and asked her what she wanted to become. The girl replied that she wanted to become an IPS officer. He urged Ramya’s parents to continue her education and not hurry up her marriage.
He appreciated former ZP chairperson of united Karimnagar district Tula Uma and said that every Golla-Kuruma woman must feel proud of her for reaching such heights despite being born in a poor family.
He said that there was a need to end gender-discrimination and added Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao to address this aspect.
On the demand for including GollaKurumas into the SC list, Dattatreya assured that he would initiate the process so that GollaKurumas can avail of the benefits that SC communities are getting.
