- DC CORRESPONDENT

The residents of Tadi village, which is surrounded by chemical factories, Parawada police station limits panicked when gas leaked from a unit of Admiron Life Sciences Private Limited in Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Visakhapatnam district on Thursday. Even the staff of the company ran away from the work site for safety.

However, timely intervention by security team and the police calmed the people. Parawada circle inspector Umamaheswara Rao said “There were no casualties and injuries. The incident occurred on Thursday morning and was brought under control by noon.” Some Tadi villagers, who reached the incident spot, said that government should take action against companies which fail to adhere to safety norms in the special economic zone (SEZ).

The government relocated all villages for the pharma SEZ except Tadi, which is surrounded by pharma companies. Nearly 1,200 households in Tadi suffer from industrial pollution. The Pendurthy MLA, Adipraj, has not taken measures in the last two years to shift the villagers to a safe place with support from the local revenue officials.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Parawada tahsildar B.V. Rani said that they already proposed the shifting of the Tadi villagers to other places. “When the government asked, the villagers were reluctant to move. Now they have came forward to shift to a safe place. We will shortly shift the Tadi villagers. The works are going on,” Rani said.
