Online hiring back to pre-Covid level

A surge in recruitmen­t in veterinary, sanitation, food and retail saw overall online hiring activity returning to pre-pandemic levels.

For the first time in months, hiring activity in India is at a pre pandemic baseline of February 2020 level, said Indeed, a multinatio­nal job site.

"It feels like the labour market recovery has really found its footing. Job growth continues to accelerate and more workers are finding jobs or starting to pick up their job search. Sectors tied to the reopening of the labour market are leading the way, giving some hope that these gains can continue in the months ahead," it said.

According to Monster.com, another USbased job site, hiring demand has increased by

10 per cent in the last three months. July witnessed an overall monthly growth of

4 per cent in hiring against the previous month.

Indeed data shows that the reopening of spaces post-lockdown has increased the focus on hygiene and sanitizati­on and the demand for housekeepe­rs, caretakers, housekeepi­ng managers, custodians, executive housekeepe­rs, and cleaners grew by 60 per cent between July 2020 and July 2021. The number of job roles in food and retail sectors too witnessed an

increase of 52 per cent and

39 per cent, respective­ly, in the same period.

IT is one sector that hich has remained active in hiring during the pandemic and job postings for IT tech software roles saw a

19 per cent increase between July 2020 and July 2021. Job posting for other IT job roles such as

project head, engineer saw an increase of 8-16 per cent. As per Monster, demand for profession­als in software, hardware, telecom functions continued to show an uptrend of 42 per cent year-on-year in July. Hiring activity in Bengaluru was 57 per cent up, Pune 35 per cent and Chennai 29 per cent.
