KCR, Harish responsible for TS’ losing Krishna water: Revanth
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and then irrigation minister T. Harish Rao are responsible for the injustice done to the Telangana state in allocation of river Krishna water. KCR and Harish continued the temporary agreement of water sharing since 2015, which is adversely affecting the farmers of south Telangana districts, he said.
Revanth Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao “gifted” 330 tmc of Krishna water to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy. Ignoring the interests of the people of Telangana, KCR had issued GO 203 enabling AP to get eight tmc from Pothireddypadu and four tmc from Rayalaseema lift irrigation schemes, he said. “Does KCR surrender to AP CM Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy?” he questioned. Congress party and former minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy wrote a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao alerting on the Krishna water diversion to AP, he reminded.
Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, Congress president said that AP Reorganisation Act clearly stated setting up of Apex council, Krishna and Godavari River Management Boards to settle the water sharing issues amicably between AP and Telangana. Of the
811 tmc share of Krishna water in combined Andhra Pradesh,
299 tmc for Telangana and 512 tmc water for AP allocated after bifurcation of state, he explained.
Revanth Reddy alleged that the Telangana government intentionally absent from the meetings of Krishna River Management Board and diverting the attention of people. Generation of power at Srisailam is
not an issue, but the state government is trying to escape from its fault by diverting the water sharing issue, he said.
TPCC chief said that ministers from south Telangana districts sought 50 per cent water share in Krishna river as its catchment area spreads in Telangana. He said that TRS-BJP is maintaining friendship in Delhi and fighting in the state.
BJP should declare its stand on the Krishna water allocation to the Telangana state, he demanded.
Revanth Reddy said that they will strive hard to realise the dream of late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy to make Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister. Former ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Mohammad Ali Shabbir were present.
