More idol immersions expected as Covid restrictions relaxed

ABOUT 5,000 idols had been immersed last year. This year, with no Covid-19 restrictions, officials are expecting a much higher number of idols for immersion.
Steps have been taken to ensure that the newly renovated pedestrian walkway on Tank Bund does not get damaged during immersion of Ganesh idols this year, special chief secretary (Urban Development) Arvind Kumar said on Saturday.
He was speaking after inspecting preparations being made around Tank Bund for large-scale immersion of idols. Arvind Kumar was accompanied by city police commissioner Anjani Kumar.

Last year, despite restrictions due to the second wave of Covid-19, around 50 cranes had been parked along Tank Bund, NTR Marg and People’s Plaza for Ganesh Visarjan.

Though many sites at different lakes and tanks in and around the city have been identified for immersion, Hussainsagar continues to remain the focus for immersion of Ganesh idols.
City police have asked anyone seeking to install a Ganesh idol in a public place as community activity to first register online with the police. Idols can be installed only after receiving permission for the same.
