Slow uptick in cases from Telangana

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, DEC. 2

Even as Telangana health authorities on Thursday said that there appeared to be a slow uptick in Covid-19 cases, and the officials are urging everyone to get vaccinated to ensure they stay safe, officials announced that a District Medical and Health Officer in the state contracted Covid.

The Suryapet District Medical and Health Officer, and at least three others in his family were found to be Covid positive. The official’s son, who is reported to have returned from Germany five days ago, was among those from the family who tested positive for the disease. The others who contracted Covid-19 were the official’s wife, daughter-in-law, reports from Suryapet district said.

The family had visited Tirumala over the past few days, while the health official took part in the World Aids Day celebrations in Suryapet on Wednesday.

Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr G. Srinivasa Rao told reporters that there was a slow uptick of cases in the state, and even if one person is infected, and if people are in closed settings, the disease was rapidly spreading to others as seen in the instance of 48 cases at the Muthangi, and 28 case in the Wyra residential schools. He urged people to strictly follow safety protocols. The mask is the best vaccine, and everyone must get their vaccine shots for better protection, he said.

“People have to understand the seriousness of the current situation,” Dr G. Srinivasa Rao said, adding: “Our uncivilised ways, or thoughtless actions can make the worst predictions come true. The government is doing everything it can, providing vaccination and care. But people must step up to save themselves and others around them,” the top health official of the state said.
