3 DAYS STATE MOURNING FOR ROSAIAH

Chief Minister K. Chandrasek­har Rao visited the residence of Rosaiah on Saturday and paid rich tributes. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy and senior leaders K.V.P. Ramchander Rao, V. Hanumantha Rao, former TPCC president and MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, TPCC working president T. Jayaprakas­h ‘Jagga’ Reddy, J. Geetha Reddy, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan and other leaders from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh paid rich tributes to Rosaiah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana state Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarara­jan conveyed their condolence­s to the bereaved family.

On Sunday, the body will be kept at Gandhi Bhavan for the Congress leaders and the general public to pay tributes to the former Chief Minister. A funeral procession will be taken out from Gandhi Bhavan to the farmhouse at Devaryamja­l in Kompally, where final rites will be performed.

Senior Congress leader and the leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarju­n Kharge will visit his body and pay tributes to the departed leader on Sunday.

AICC president Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi conveyed their condolence­s on the demise of the veteran leader.

The Telangana state government decided to conduct his funeral with police honours. The district collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy have been directed to make necessary arrangemen­ts in this regard. The state government will also observe state mourning for three days from December 4 to 6.

Rosaiah was born in Vemuru village of Guntur district in the Madras presidency on July 4, 1933. He is survived by his wife Shivalaksh­mi, sons K. Shiva Subba Rao, K.S.N. Murthy and daughter P. Rama Devi. He was first time elected as an MLC to AP Legislativ­e Council in 1968. Rosaiah served as chief minister of the AP from September 3, 2009 after the demise of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy till November 2010. He also served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu from August 31, 2011 to August 30, 2016. He also held additional charge as the Governor of Karnataka for a brief period. After completion of his tenure as the Governor in August, 2016, Rosaiah retired from active politics and stayed at his residence at Ameerpet in Hyderabad. He was suffering from age-related problems in recent times.
