Farmers sold cow dung at `2 per kg to state govt C’garh: Cow dung a ray of hope

- DC CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, DEC. 7

Farmers and cattle rearers in Chhattisgarh would have never imagined that waste produced by cattle would help them sail through the hard times during the Covid-19 pandemic. Cow dung turned out to be a saviour to many farmers in the state as they could sell it to the state government under the Go Dhan Nyay Yojana scheme and make good money.

The farmers and cattle rearers sold cow-dung at `2 per kg to the state government under its scheme. The scheme launched by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel became an additional source of income and brought a new ray of hope in the lives of farmers and livestock farmers.

Ramesh Kashyap of Patan block in Durg said his two sons could not take online classes as there was no facility in the house. However, watching his children's interest in studies, he decided to purchase a laptop from the amount he received selling cow dung.

He earned `49,650 by selling cow-dung under the Go Dhan Nyay Yojana between August 2020 and January 2021. The state government transferred the amount directly into his bank account, and he utilised the money for purchasing the laptop.

The scheme also helped a woman to get her mortgaged land released.

Rambha Maravi said that she had to mortgage her land for `1.5 lakh to take care of her husband's medical treatment after he was injured in an accident. “I came to know about the government’s scheme and have earned over `51,000 so far,” she added. She got half of her land released by paying back the amount.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel believes that the state has achieved many goals through a single scheme. He said that the scheme has helped in strengthening the rural economy of the state, has increased purchasing power by putting money in the pockets of rural people, solved the problem of disposal of wastes produced by cattle, the problem of cattle grazing, among others.
