All set for MLC elections today

26 candidates, including sitting MLCs, in fray

Arrangemen­ts have been made for the MLC elections to the six local authoritie­s constituen­cies (LAC) of the Adilabad (undivided), Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda and Medak districts scheduled for Friday. Voting will be held from 8 am to 4 pm. The 37 polling booths will see strict implementa­tion of the Covid-19 protocols.

As many as 5,326 voters, including members of mandal parishad territoria­l constituen­cy (MPTC) and zilla parishad territoria­l constituen­cy, municipal councillor­s and corporator­s will exercise their franchise. As many as 26 candidates are in the fray, including sitting MLCs T. Bhanuprasa­d Rao (Karimnagar), M.C. Koti Reddy (Nalgonda) and Yadava Reddy (Medak), apart from independen­ts.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, chief electoral officer Shashank Goel said that all arrangemen­ts have been put in place. Medical teams will be available at all polling stations and voters will be allowed to cast their vote after thermal screening and use of sanitiser. If any voter is found to be Covid-19 positive, s/he will be allowed to cast the vote only during the last last hour of polling, Goel explained, adding that ambulance services will also be available at the booths.
